University of Tennessee’s Hamilton Eye Institute, Residency in Ophthalmology 2014
University of Mississippi School of Medicine 2010
The University of Mississippi 2006
PRIOR EXPERIENCE
Dr. Kosko is passionate about cataract surgery and lens implant exchange surgery. He is also a glaucoma specialist and performs minimally invasive glaucoma surgery. He is always trying to learn more to bring better and safer treatments to his patients. Dr. Kosko was the first surgeon in Mississippi to implant the XEN® Gel Stent, the first surgeon in Mississippi to perform ABiC® (Ab interno Canaloplasty), the first surgeon in Mississippi to perform the Hydrus® Microstent procedure, and the first surgeon in Mississippi certified in the HumanOptics® CUSTOMFLEX® ARTIFICIALIRIS procedure. Dr. Kosko also performs the GATT procedure (Gonioscopy-Assisted Transluminal Trabeculotomy), iStent Inject® procedures, glaucoma laser surgeries such as SLT (Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty) and MicroPulse® laser trans-scleral cyclophotocoagulation (mTSCPC), trabeculectomy, and glaucoma shunt surgery.
Cataract surgery remains Dr. Kosko's favorite surgery to perform. While in residency at the Hamilton Eye Institute, Dr. Kosko received extensive training and experience in cataract surgery. Dr. Kosko also completed a fellowship at Callahan Eye Hospital/UAB, widely regarded as one of the highest volume fellowships in the country for cataract and glaucoma surgery. In the years since completing training, Dr. Kosko has performed thousands of additional cataract and glaucoma procedures and has significant experience with laser-assisted cataract surgery and premium intraocular lenses to decrease his patients’ dependence on glasses, using the RxSIGHT® Light Adjustable Lens™, toric/astigmatism-correcting lenses, multifocal lenses (Alcon® PanOptix® and TECNIS® multifocal implants such as Synergy®), and Extended Depth of Focus/EDOF lenses (Vivity® and Symfony® implants), as well as combining such advanced cataract surgery techniques with minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries to help decrease his patients’ dependence on eye drops.
Dr. Kosko has a deep passion for intraocular lens exchange surgery for patients who have had previous cataract surgery and are unhappy with (or have had complications from) their current intraocular lens implant (the implant placed at the time of their previous/original cataract surgery). Dr. Kosko has significant experience with the Yamane intrascleral haptic fixation technique in complex lens implant surgery. These and several of his other surgical videos are viewable on his YouTube channel:
Dr. Kosko graduated in the top 10 of his medical school class and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (“AOA”) medical honor society and has been “Board Certified” by the American Board of Ophthalmology since 2015. He has participated in ophthalmic medical mission work in Kenya and the Dominican Republic and is trained in the MSICS procedure (manual small incision cataract surgery), which is used to remove advanced cataracts in third world countries where modern instrumentation is not readily available. While he feels privileged to have the MSICS procedure in his skill set, Dr. Kosko is immensely grateful to operate in Jackson Eye Associates' surgery center where the surgeons use the most state-of-the-art ophthalmic microscopes, lasers (such as the LenSx® femtosecond laser cataract surgery laser), and phacoemulsification (cataract) machines available in the world today.
